Could do with a bit more interaction with listeners; live Q&A sessions, phone-in during live podcast recording, opinion polls on twitter or something similar to the emoji wall. Deep dive / narrow down on topics because 11FS is being looked upon for clarity, after all 94% of people in Financial services think their colleagues are bluffing about their fintech knowledge. Let fintech insider podcast be that one-stop-shop for trusted insights on trending topics.

Here's one...

Customer need:

As a FI podcast listener I want to have a convenient way to find details of topic / companies / people info, referred in the Show So that I can easily find more information about them

Potential Solutions:

  • I know it might mean a lot of more work for Laura but an exhaustive list of topic / companies / people ( their name, linkedin, twitter handle, etc) in the Podcast description would help greatly. (Not sure if there is a text limitation)
  • A full searchable transcript (I'm sure that can be done using Amazon LEX) that I can query

Otherwise the show is awesome, keep up the good work guys!

Obviously - stop name checking Barbs ;-)

I like the banter between guests as much as the news to be fair - and camping out here means that I've a good idea of what's going to be covered. It's good that there's a confidence to give an opinion and not just stick to facts.

So the interviews are where the new insight comes from. The interviews post take over are always good as you get lots of detail about a particular company. Interviews or panels about a particular topic such as chat bots (so we can get Sharon on) or AI would be good, although risk multiple spin-offs like Bchain insider!

More takeovers - or deep dives on narrow topics e.g the China edition or the state of AI.

Obviously along with the video diary and film, some insights into building a digital bank - So how does 11FS go about building multiple banks? From securing the talent to deciding the architecture and tools to determining what's needed for the MVP. Maybe a series on that and the main protagonists even if you have to keep the end customers under wraps.

I think the Facebook live suggestion is a great idea, maybe one for the next live podcast?

Ability to submit questions prior to the podcast to be discussed?

I also like the theming idea. I'm keen to keep my general knowledge up-to-date, however going deep on certain subjects could help with keeping the content relevant/searchable.

I agree with this. I like the combination of news show + insights deep dives (we did a great 'realities of open banking' recording yesterday).. and I'm planning one on 'user centred design in FS' and maybe 'What will be the real impact of GDPR'

Hi David,

This isn't actually for the podcast, it's something that I think would be really helpful here though. I basically have FintechInsiderNews.com open in my browser all day as it acts as a one-stop shop for all the latest fintech updates and makes it virtually impossible to miss a major news headline. However, there are some companies that I'm particularly interested in and I'm wondering whether it'd be possible to build in a feature where you can almost "follow" a handful of companies (max five so you have to be selective)? Essentially, for any news that's posted on them, you'd get an email notification - a bit like you do when you post some news and someone comments on it. This would be hugely helpful for when people aren't at their desk but are out and about on their smartphone, and because people tend to post almost as soon as articles are published, it's way better than other automatic notifications like Google Alerts which tend to have a few hours delay.

Just a thought but something that I think could be really useful!

That's quite an interesting use case Val. Sign up for Alerts by industry, area, or keywords you want to follow. There might need to be some classification of the articles, and you'd probably choose whether to get updates once a day or in near-realtime.

A FIN community takeover episode. Community votes who gets to act as the hosts on a future episode, with 11:FS team as the guests.

More episodes :)

I agree with Gary (see who is being nice here 😉) - the casual, conversational tone and expression of divergent opinions is what keeps me listening. If I only wanted to be informed of what is happening I’d stick to reading posts.

11:FS team features - an add to behind-the-scenes videos. Let us get to know the larger 11:FS team who make all of this possible.

Continue asking listeners for The questions they’d like to ask in advance of upcoming interviews.

Great suggestion Seb. I always wondered if anyone ever read the notes!!

I do for twitter details

Same, because we can’t always rely on the hosts’ name pronunciation skills.

I also like the article link references so I don’t have to come back here and search for them.

Easy!!!

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe a touch shorter? (or the same material in two episodes). Pushing an hour is longer than my usual listening window. But maybe that’s just me.

My commute is about an hour each way - so I'm fine with it :)

My commute is 30 seconds, but I’m atypically smug. UK average is 41 minutes, and rest of world have shorter commutes on the whole. I guess there’s data on average commute and optimum podcast length out there somewhere.

@David M. Brear 🔥🔥 I was thinking that a special FIN post per Podcast episode would be great so we can debate on the day about the particular topics covered

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm really keen to make it easier for users to discuss the stories from the podcast, after they've listened to it too.

I'd like to steer people to the posts where the news was originally discussed so that they can join in with the conversation, rather than starting from scratch again. We're also working on some changes that'll make it easier for users to find those posts again on the site.

How does that sound?

sounds good to me, although I am not sure how many people come back to that conversation, I guess you'll figure it out

If you’re subscribed to notifications for both comments on your posts and mentions, if someone mentions you in a comment on your post, you receive 2 notification emails. It would be nice if it was just one.

Good point, I'll add that to the list of things to fix 🙌

@barbmaclean that's a good suggestion. Only @barbmaclean would make such a good suggestion. Well done @barbmaclean 😂

Damn. It only links once 😢
